Artist Statement

My work explores quiet, sunlit landscapes where stillness and atmosphere take precedence over narrative. Drawn to Mediterranean and subtropical environments—palm trees, reflective pools, expansive skies—I paint spaces that feel both real and slightly removed, like memories softened over time.

Water, sky, and foliage recur as central elements, not just as subjects but as carriers of mood. Reflections dissolve form, light diffuses edges, and colour becomes a way of holding onto a fleeting moment—heat, wind, or the calm at the end of a day. I’m interested in that tension between clarity and blur: what is seen versus what is felt.

There’s a deliberate simplicity in composition—often a single tree, a quiet pool, or an open sky—inviting pause rather than attention. These are not places of activity, but of presence. The absence of people allows the viewer to step into the scene, to experience a sense of solitude, rest, or escape.

Working in oil, I build surfaces slowly, allowing softness and imperfection to remain visible. Brushstrokes are not concealed but used to create a sense of movement—wind through palms, shifting light, or the instability of reflection.

Ultimately, these paintings are about atmosphere and memory—about capturing places that feel familiar, even if they’ve never been visited.
